Xiaomi Mi4 announced as the fastest smartphone in the world

Xiaomi has officially announced its latest flagship smartphone, the 4G LTE-enabled Mi4.

Some of the things we’ve heard before were true and some others, we’re sad to say, missed the mark. For one thing, the Mi4 doesn’t rock the Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chip but Snapdragon 801, which is clocked at 2.5GHz. This is still faster than Snapdragon 800 found in the Mi3, but not as fast as we would want it to be. Nevertheless, the “Apple of China” claims that what it has made is the world’s fastest smartphone and we tend to believe them.

Instead of boasting a Quad HD (2560×1440 pixels) screen, the Mi4 has a display that is “stuck” at full HD resolution; as far as we (don’t) know, this could be the same screen the Mi3 has. Rest of the specs include 3GB of RAM, 13-megapixel rear camera with f/1.8 aperture, 8-megapixel f/1.8 front-facing shooter with an 80-degree wide-angle lens (for great selfies), and 16 or 64 GB of built-in eMMC 5.0 storage (the fastest available).

Xiaomi’s chief previously confirmed that the Mi4 won’t rock an all-metal body; the device, however, sports an iPhone-like metal frame that does promise a premium look and feel. You can see how this fancy frame is made from the video below.

But before you click the “Play” button, let me add the pricing information: the 16GB model will go for 1999 Yuan (about $320), while the version with 64GB of built-in storage will cost 500 Yuan more, for the equivalent of $400. I would buy one of these right now if they were available in Europe. Alas, Xiaomi’s primary market is China and only later they’ll bring the Mi4 to few other countries in Asia. Europe and North America are not on their list, yet.
